Meh. I'm not impressed with this story.
I put this on my "worth a re-read" shelf, because I think this audio book suffers from great narrator + great book = total mismatch. Emily Bauer is ok, but her voice is completely wrong for this character. I wish they'd gotten Emma Galvin, who read [b:Divergent|8306857|Divergent (Divergent, #1)|Veronica Roth|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327873996s/8306857.jpg|13155899]. Deuce is much more of a kick-ass character, and Emily Bauer has this little-girl-sweet voice that is completely WRONG for the character. It is ruining the book for me, even though I'm 3/4 of the way thru it. I checked and she also narrates the second in the series, so I'll be passing on that as well.
This is not to say that I won't actually pick up the paper book and read it. I think it might be worth a read - I'm kind of iffy on the story, because I wonder if the author was too ambitious with plague/zombies/gangs/underground society/etc. There's a LOT going on. But I may revisit it in print later nonetheless.
So bye for now, audiobook. I am becoming quite an audiobook/narrator critic. Sometimes, as in this case, it makes all the difference.
