I was wary of the premise of the first book (Matched), thinking it would turn into a sappy story full of teenage angst. I couldn't have been more wrong. This author took the idea and turned it into something intelligent, engaging, and entertaining. I even found it believable on several levels. The characters are smart, well-developed, multi-dimensional. The emotional investment I made as a reader paid off. I'm really looking forward to the last book in the triology.
Don't be fooled into thinking that this is a book about teenagers in love. It is much more a commentary on a society in which demands are made of its citizens that they cannot meet in good conscience. It is unexpected. Well done, Ally Condie.
